Hitting the Trails

Get Out and Enjoy: What’s open every day of the year, unique only to San Diego and best of all costs nothing? That would have to be the trails in and around Balboa Park, right in the heart of San Diego.  There are 19 trails in all that will take you along dirt trails or sidewalks and past gardens and museums. The routes range from easy to difficult and cover 65 miles so no doubt there’s something for just about everyone in your group.

Mapping it Out:  If you’ve never used the trails, there’s a system in place to help guide you. The park’s staff and volunteers have pulled together a satellite image-based map that has been merged with a series of GPS-documented routes. There’s also signage along the way to point out the topography and park landmarks. Click here for a map.

Relax and Unwind: After your walk, run, jog – cap off the day with a fresh lemonade or iced tea at the SDMA Sculpture Court Café. If you’ve worked up an appetite, check out their signature pear and pecan salad. The café is located in the heart of the park and open Tuesday through Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. year round.
