Head ‘Home for Christmas' in Julian

A wreath demo, gift-wrapping tips, and more holiday-related fun is ahead at Oakwood Creek.

WHILE THE LIGHTING OF THE TREE... in Julian happened on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, there are still shimmery seasonal doings afoot, the sort of get-out-of-town to-dos that have a small-town charm and easy, walk-around feel to them. Add to this the fact that there are festive shops around the village, the kind of stores brimming with stocking stuffers and nostalgic gifts, and you have a readymade Decembertime day-out-in-the-country plan in the works. Julian been on your must-visit list over the last couple of weeks but you still haven't made it up? Take note, that on...

FRIDAY, DEC. 8 AND SATURDAY, DEC. 9... there are holiday-related goings-on at Oakwood Creek. The shop, which is located right in Julian, will be hosting a few demonstrations, including one devoted to wreath design and another that's all about the wrapping of gifts. And do you have a mantel in your den or living room, one that's in need of baubles and framed photos and ceramic pinecones and glass reindeer? There shall be instruction on merrying up your mantel, too. The focus is domestic, so if your home has been looking too unholidayfied, there's a way to remedy that, with a bit of cheerful instruction.

JUST CHECK DATES AND TIMES... before driving for Julian, to make sure you see the demo you're interested in, and, of course, make time for pie. It's still fall, technically, even though leaf-peeping is done, and having a slice of something apple-y in the pie-tastic town seems like the perfectly delicious thing to do. Christmas cookies can wait.
