Free Shuttle Awaits Coronado Visitors

This summer you can visit the Hotel del Coronado and the ever-popular Coronado Beach and leave your vehicle at home.

The Coronado City Council approved a $54,000 pilot program to offer a free shuttle from the ferry landing and the Coronado Island Marriott Hotel through downtown Coronado to the ultimate destination of the iconic red-roofed hotel so many tourists travel to San Diego to see.

β€œWhen someone takes the ferry across the bay then hops on the shuttle, it will be a very quick, direct and convenient way to visit that iconic hotel,” said Coronado Mayor Casey Tanaka.

Hopefully those visitors will stop in some of the city’s local shops and restaurants along the way the mayor said.

β€œWe think there will be a lot of people interested and the price tag of free certainly should help,” Tanaka said.

There will be two buses converted and wrapped to say β€œFree Summer Shuttle.”

They will run every 30 minutes between 9 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. daily with an extra hour Fridays and Saturdays.

The program runs from July 5 through September 30.

Look for the special bus stop signs and brochures in local hotels and businesses.
