A Mountain-High Destination Prepares to Dazzle

The see-it-from-all-over Christmas tree at the Palm Springs tram will glitter this December.

GAZE UP, far up, into the almost-winter night sky, the glittery dome that spreads so vastly, and majestically, over the California desert, and you're bound to see a few beautiful sights. You'll spy the prominent constellations that take centerstage as the year draws to a cold close, and you'll see the magnificent moon, if the moon is doing its full or nearly full look-at-me thing. And, if you happen to look in the direction of Mt. San Jacinto, from certain spots around Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley, you'll see a bright spot up the dark and dramatic slope. It's the large and prominently featured Christmas tree that's positioned outside the Mountain Station at the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. Of course, you need to glance up at the highest point of the tram during the right stretch of the calendar, which will begin in 2019 on...

SUNDAY, DEC. 1: That's when the famous attraction lights its bright, conical symbol, which stands tall outside of the tram's mid-century Peaks Restaurant. But you don't nearly need to admire it from down below in Palm Springs or another resort city. You can catch a tram up, even at night, to see it up close, and snap a few sparkly snapshots. The cost? It's just your tram admission; no extra fee is required to admire the tree, which is comprised of oodles of LED bulbs (there are real trees just steps away, in case you'd like to see those, too). Special events will pop up throughout December, including music performances and visits from Santa. Tram your way to this site, pronto, for all of the high-in-the-sky happenings at the desert-to-mountain destination.
