Winchester Mystery House

We’ve got that eerie feelin’: Yes, we know Halloween has already come and gone. Don’t remind us.  But what about the folks who want to get spooked all year round? Insert; The Winchester Mystery House.  It’s located in San Jose, just about a five-hour drive up north, but it’s an unusual sight that's--of course-- worth the drive.  Sarah Winchester and her exquisite taste designed the house with lurking “evil” spirits—ghosts—influencing a lot of the architectural oddities.  Architectural oddities?  How’s a staircase that declines seven steps then rises eleven for odd?  Pretty peculiar, we think.  Did we mention the plethora of spooky spirit sightings, including that of Mrs. Winchester?

Tourrific: Don’t worry, not all of the tours include ghost sightings.  You can explore the lavish gardens or check out the largest collection of Winchester Rifles on the West Coast.  However, if you do plan to see the ghost of Mrs. Winchester, you may want to look into the Flashlight Tour.  They’re given every Friday the 13th (next one in May) to add to that naturally spooky nature of the tour.   You’ll be given moonlight and a souvenir flashlight as your night’s form of illumination.  Check out the tour schedule before you plan your trip.
