When it comes to Toad the Wet Sprocket, where do I even begin? My first Toad show ever was at Montezuma Hall at SDSU. I was barely a teenager, old enough to finally go to concerts with my friends but not wise enough to realize it's a jerk move to push people out of your way to get to the front. I was with some of my best friends, and we met like-minded fans while waiting in line who are still friends of mine to this day. Say what you will about the band's movement from college and alternative radio to more mainstream and even adult contemporary outlets, but nothing will take away the summer my friends and I roadtripped on the 1 listening to "Dulcinea" the whole way or getting to see frontman Glen Phillips in tiny intimate venues like Lestat's when he'd join Steve Poltz. Tonight, they play the first of two nights at the Belly Up and I haven't decided which one I'll attend. Maybe I'll have to go to both. Around town, Johnny Tarr Quartet play the Casbah, Adrian Demain keeps things weird at Bar Pink's Tiki Tuesday, and 91x's Tim Pyles presents his night at the Merrow with Pinkeye heading the bill.
