Sounds Like San Diego: October 13

Tonight brings the return of one of my personal favorites. I suppose I discovered Blind Pilot by accident, just checking out some friends' bands who were in the opening slots at the Casbah, but from the first note of the headliner, I was hooked. The band played in San Diego three times in 2009, but this is its first time visiting this year, so, needless to say, I'm hoping it has some new material to play in addition to its 3 Rounds and a Sound material. If you're not familiar, they're a six-piece ensemble that  play indie-folk, complete with gorgeous string embellishments. If you're familiar with Joel P West and the Tree Ring locally, expect a similar understated sound by skilled musicians who make playing look easy.

If you're not into the indie-folk like I am, you can check out Hot Chip, who took a headlining slot at House of Blues after their show in support of LCD Soundsystem was canceled. Semi-locals Bostich + Fussible open the show. There are other great shows tonight, including the Weepies over at Winston's and the Morning Benders at the Belly Up. Just remember to take it easy, though, because tomorrow has even more amazing things to do, and you'll kick yourself if you don't participate.
