As the 25th Anniversary of the Casbah continues this month, the Penetrators headlining show is sold out, but there are plenty of other events to choose from. Johnette Napolitano (Concrete Blonde) with opener Jesse LaMonaca plays at the Griffin, the Dread Crew of Oddwood take over Soda Bar, and Wild Ones play a free show at the Whistle Stop, followed by F---ing in the Bushes with DJs Daniel Sant and Rob Moran and your Brit-pop favorites.
On Saturday, start your day with the Vinyl Record Art Show at the grand opening of La Bodega. Buck-o-Nine hits the Casbah for a sold-out show, while The Best of San Diego takes over the Irenic. The show will feature the School of Rock students performing songs by San Diego’s best local bands over the years, including the Album Leaf, Blackout Party, the Heavy Guilt, the Locust, Lord Howler, Mrs. Magician, Transfer, the Nervous Wreckords, Rocket from the Crypt and Pinback (click here for more information). For your dancing fix, the Dragon Lounge 16 Year Anniversary Party is at the Kava Lounge, ‘80s vs. ‘90s with DJs Gabe Vega and Saul hits the Whistle Stop, Bixel Boys are at Bang Bang, and Neon Beat will give you a workout at Bar Pink.
Sunday at the Casbah, the Silent Comedy, Heavy Guilt and Deadly Birds show is sold out. Last time I checked, there were still tickets for the Monday show at the Casbah with the Silent Comedy and Family Wagon. At U31, it’s Bruin, Neighbors to the North, and the Night Owl Massacre, with DJ sets by Speaker Ghost and Volz. The Belly Up features Kelley James and a special acoustic performance by Ed Roland from Collective Soul.
Have a great weekend and I’ll see you on the dance floor!
