Sounds Like San Diego: August 4

It can hard to carry on after intense and bleak news -- but today is a perfect day to get out and celebrate community

It can be really hard after a week with intense and bleak news to just carry on with our lives, but today is a perfect day to celebrate community and causes. I grew up in Chula Vista, so the Lemon Festival is near and dear to my heart and the downtown village has seen a renaissance in recent years that makes it a desirable spot to spend the day with vendors, performers and live music. By evening, the Casbah is hosting a benefit for Border Angels, an important organization on the front lines of helping immigrants and asylum-seekers who would otherwise have to navigate our nonsensical legal system on their own. Soda Bar rages with Bars of Gold, Jill Scott plays a sold-out show at Humphreys, and Weird Al makes an appearance of weirdness at the Civic Theatre.
