This weekend marks the official start of summer, and there are plenty of shows and DJ events that will heat up dance floors all over San Diego.
Donavon Frankenreiter plays a sold-out show Friday at the Belly Up with Makua Rothman and Justin Carter. She & Him (Zooey Deschanel & M. Ward) make their San Diego debut at the SDSU Open Air Theater. After that, head to the Whistle Stop in South Park for one of my favorite Brit-pop nights, F---ing in the Bushes. Other options include Soda Bar for Deadly Birds with Neighbors to the North and Tiny Frank (EP Release), or the Styletones at Bar Pink.
Saturday is the 10-Year Anniversary Party of DJ Claire’s Happy Hour at the Whistle Stop. The shindig is from 5-8 p.m., and Claire will be joined by DJ Mr. Mazee, aka Tim Mays of the Casbah. Plus, there will be a live performance by Low Volts. After that, the always-fun Booty Bassment takes over at the Whistle. You can also swing by Numb3rs in Hillcrest, where I will be hosting Club Sabbat. DJs Lady Noir and Dark Angel will provide the tunes; grab more info here. New Mexico headline at Soda Bar, and Donavon Frankenreiter plays Night 2 at the Belly Up.
