It was supposed to happen on March 2, but rain swept those plans away. Provided there's no storm this time around, South Bay Rockers will finally blow through Chula Vista Memorial Park on Saturday, March 30, from 1-4 p.m.
The all-ages event brings South Bay bands Static Halo, Action Andy & the Hi-Tones and Neko Neko Neko, featuring Zeros bassist Hector Penalosa, together for a "pay what you can" music festival replete with taco trucks, ice cream trucks and more.
Music historians often claim that Chula Vista punk pioneers the Zeros were the West Coast equivalent of the Ramones back in the '70s, making Penalosa's appearance all the more special.
"This show I’m helping to organize ... is a special tribute to music and musicians that came out of the South Bay community in the past few decades," organizer Sharon Young writes on the festival's Go Fund Me page.
"All proceeds will cover event costs and a donation to music resources at the Boys and Girls Club of Chula Vista, a place that fostered Hector’s love of music while he was growing up and a place that continues to benefit South Bay youth in the arts, leadership and recreation," she adds.
