The Selecter perform at the Casbah Friday.

As a woman, I hate calling this the #metoo "era" or "movement," when most of us have been fighting the good fight all of our lives -- but it is important to point out amazing artists like Pauline Black, who has been on the right side of history all along, as a two-tone pioneer and outspoken artist and activist. Tonight, the Selecter play the first of two nights at the Casbah, albeit two weeks apart, and it's going to be a gathering of the mods and other fans of ska. Around town, the Motet return to bring funk and afrobeat to the Belly Up, Gorgon City bring down the house with a sold-out show at the Observatory North Park, and Mr. Twin Sister keep things weird at Soda Bar. A special mention for our buddy Bart Mendoza, who is hosting the ninth installment of "Sounds Like San Diego" -- no relation to this column -- which features live music from some of our homegrown best at Museum of Making Music.
