X-Fest 2018 Is ‘Where It's At'

Beck comes to 91x's summer festival with Death Cab for Cutie, Twin Shadow and more in tow

Beck is back, and it's all thanks to 91x -- yet again!

On Aug. 11, Beck will headline X-Fest at the SDCCU Stadium practice field. Bands joining the Grammy-winning experimental singer/songwriter/producer include Death Cab for Cutie, Twin Shadow, Joywave, the Struts, Meg Myers, Moon Taxi, Teenage Wrist, Mansionair and the Regrettes.

Split between two stages, the festival, co-presented by Goldenvoice, celebrates 35 years of 91x's commitment to premier radio programming in San Diego.

About a year and a half ago, 91x tapped Beck and Blink-182 to headline their holiday-themed music festival, Wrex the Halls. Unlike Blink, that's not his latest San Diego appearance. In September 2017, he headlined SDCCU Stadium in support of his latest album, "Colors." His frequent appearances are no surprise considering San Diego's long-running affinity for the multi-faceted artist -- all the way back to "Odelay."

Some equally impressive news is Death Cab's return to the limelight. They haven't released a new album since 2015, but the rumor is a new release is brewing this year.

While last year's X-Fest featured the bright, electro stylings of Phoenix and Empire of the Sun, the whole affair ended up being a bit drizzly and chilly. Something tells me Beck and Death Cab are going to bring out the sunshine this time.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 11, and $1 from each ticket sold will be donated to the Inspired By Music fund.
