Now that the Comic-Con withdrawal has set in, it’s great timing for the opening weekend of Wolverine. If you’d rather wait for the crowds to settle down, feast your eyes and ears on plenty of live music and dancing over the next few days.
Friday picks include the Del Mar Concert Series featuring Fitz & the Tantrums at the racetrack and the 91X-clusive sold-out show with the 1975 at the Casbah. Other live acts to check out include Common Sense at House of Blues, the Black Sands and the Midnight Pine at the Whistle Stop, Hills Like Elephants and River City at the Seven Grand. Elsewhere, Swim Party headlines the night at Soda Bar. For your dancing fun, it’s Bonkers!, featuring DJs Vaughn Avakian and Heather Hardcore at Bar Pink.
On Saturday, set sail to the fifth annual Yacht Rock party at the Whistle Stop from 5-8 p.m. DJs Claire and Ascot will provide the smooth soundtrack to your summer. Nautical/’70s attire is encouraged but not required. Later that night, hang at the Whistle for Booty Bassment with DJs Rob and Dimitri. At Numb3rs in Hillcrest, join me for Club Sabbat, where I’ll be DJing with special guest John C from Bar Sinister (Los Angeles). Get more details here. Elsewhere, TJR hits Voyeur, Boogie with Terrakroma and Omega Squad invades the Kava Lounge, and Lovelife presents Sexmas in July with Tone of Arc live at the Griffin.
For your pool-party fun, Intervention Sunday at the Hard Rock Hotel features EC Twins, and the Lafayette Hotel hosts the 91X Summer Splash Pool Party. That night, Peter Murphy celebrates 35 years of Bauhaus with a sold-out show at the Belly Up featuring all Bauhaus material. At House of Blues, it's punk rock at its finest., with a sold-out show from Rancid, Transplants and the Interrupters.
Have a great weekend and I’ll see you on the dance floor!
