The Frights have a new album dropping later this year.

It's a good week to be a fan of San Diego music: Both the Frights and the Donkeys (two SoundDiego LIVE party alums) have just dropped new singles and announced upcoming albums, to boot.

Local surf-punk heroes the Frights released the explosive anthem, "Crutch," on Monday, May 14, and it's just the latest step in a skyrocketing career trajectory that has recently found the young band (consisting of vocalist/guitarist Mikey Carnevale, bassist Richard Dotson, drummer Marc Finn and guitarist Jordan Clark) signing to Epitaph Records, reigning over 2018's South by Southwest fest with fiery performances (which we caught first-hand) and plotting a UK tour.

It's only a matter of time until they're back on U.S. soil for new shows, and according to an Epitaph press release, the group will be revealing information on a new album later this year.

Next up: The Donkeys, everyone's favorite local sultans of chill, have popped up in the limelight again with a surging new psych-rock/pop track called "Kool Kids."

The band -- who've racked up San Diego Music Award wins over the years and glowing reviews for their 2014 album "Ride the Black Wave" and 2016's "Midnight Palm" EP -- also announced a forthcoming album entitled "Sun Damaged Youth" and an accompanying North American tour that brings them to the Casbah on July 6-7 for two record release shows. Tickets go on sale to the general public at this link on Friday, May 18.
