Superstars Hit RiseUp AS ONE Border Concert

Julieta Venegas and more at San Diego's U.S.-Mexico border

One of the beautiful things about living so close to another country is that sometimes you forget that it actually is another country. You forget that there is an entirely different system of government and customs just below the somewhat arbitrary line drawn in the sand -- in short, you forget there is even a border to begin with.

On Saturday, Oct. 15, Univision and Fusion collaborate with Sprint to help celebrate this sort of forgetfulness as they host the RiseUp AS ONE Concert, featuring superstars like T Bone Burnett, Andra Day, Juanes, Julieta Venegas and more. The special event will be broadcast live on national television from the Cross Border Xpress (CBX) at San Diego’s U.S.-Mexico border.

Prominent award-winning journalist Jorge Ramos will be one of the free concert’s featured hosts, and actors Gael Garcia Bernal and Wilmer Valderrama will make guest appearances as well.

“The U.S.-Mexico border provides the perfect stage for this amazing event and is a way to highlight diversity and inclusion, despite borders,” said Camila Jimenez Villa, Co-President and Chief Content Officer for Fusion Media Group. “This location and our incredible lineup of award-winning artists will celebrate, through the power of music, the connectedness of our world and the positivity that occurs when we show empathy, respect and openness to one another.”

Watch the recently released RiseUp AS ONE launch film narrated by award-winning composer, lyricist and performer Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Although the inclusive, boundary-defying event is free, tickets are required for entry and are available here. The pre-show happens from 2-3 p.m., and the main show -- which will be broadcast live in Spanish on Univision Network and in English on Fusion -- will occur from 4-7 p.m.

Special note: There will be no parking at CBX, so please use the free parking facilities at the Helmhurst Street entrance of Southwestern College. Shuttle buses will run to and from the venue between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m.
