Summer in this city is just about as good as it gets, but thanks to the Voices of Our City Choir, it’s about to get better.
On Sunday, Aug. 18, from 4-9 p.m., the Summer in the City music festival will take over Quartyard (1301 Market Street) to benefit San Diego’s homeless and unsheltered residents.
Featuring tons of local bands from the Martin Luther King Choir to the Steph Johnson Band, Miki Vale, McFlow, the Moustache Bash Band, Francesca Valle, Rob Thorsen and, of course, the Voices of Our City Choir, this festival is guaranteed to pop off.
It’s family friendly, and they’ve made sure there’s a little something for everyone -- including food.
Tickets run $25 for adults, $10 for children (12 years old and under) and it’s free for the really little ones (four years old and under).
Plus, you know how much trying to park in downtown sucks, so Summer in the City is providing free street parking for the day of the event.
According to festival co-founder Steph Johnson, “The unsheltered people I know told me they felt invisible, without a voice. What better way to give them voices than to sing together.”
Since 2016, the non-profit has served more than 200 members, working as an advocacy group for the unsheltered community.
