I know it's been scorching in San Diego, and sometimes all you want to do is go to the beach or lay around with a fan in your face or blaring your window-mounted air conditioner, but today and tonight, there's so much going on in town that it would be a shame to stay home. Parents can kick off the day with a concert for their kids: For the first time ever, the Casbah is presenting a kids show at the Irenic. Yes, there have been all-ages shows, but this one, featuring Justin Roberts & the Not Ready For Naptime Players, is specifically designed for kids. With nine albums under his belt, the latest called Recess, the band plays music that kids enjoy without making their parents crazy. Later in the day, celebrate Cassette Store Day at M-Theory with Monochromacy and Bonsoir. By night, Murder By Death headlines the Casbah, The Tree Ring headline at the Irenic, and the crazy pirates of the Dread Crew of Oddwood spread their shanty love at the Soda Bar.
