Shakira performs at Valley View Casino Center Wednesday.

My college roommates were obsessed with Shakira. "Pies Descalzos" had just come out and she had that voice, like she was singing while gargling, and we definitely wore out that CD back then. We never could've predicted that she'd be such a crossover hit, with a career in English even more lucrative than her career in Spanish, though she's had no trouble internationally as well. Earlier this year, her tour was postponed, and tonight she's finally appearing back at Valley View Casino Center. Across town, the silky tunes of Leon Bridges will fill SDSU's Open Air Theatre, and if you were lucky enough to have seen him at the Observatory North Park, you know it's an amazing live show. Around town, the Casbah is sold out with Samantha Fish, Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues headlines the Belly Up, and Aussie Oscar Key Sung brings electronic R&B to Soda Bar.
