Sounds Like San Diego: September 30

Vampire Weekend at SDSU's Open Air Theatre is the cure for your Monday blues.

"Nobody knows what the future holds. It's bad enough just getting old." I can't think of more suitable music for the impending doom of a full governmental shutdown than Vampire Weekend's "Diane Young." On Monday, the quartet rock SDSU's Open Air Theatre. Their latest record, Modern Vampires of the City, is full of catchy gems that even longtime fans can revel in while the too-cool hipsters write them off as past their prime. There are few albums I've listened to more this summer. I guess that puts me in the former group instead of the latter and that is just fine by me. Still, if that doesn't cure your Monday blues: the always interesting Man Man has a late-announced show tonight at the Casbah; AM & Shawn Lee return to the Griffin. And the Babies (not to be confused with Babys) perform at the Void.

Monday September 30:

  • Vampire Weekend, Sky Ferreira @ SDSU Open Air Theatre
  • Man Man, Xenia Rubinos @ Casbah
  • AM & Shawn Lee, Caught a Ghost @ the Griffin
  • The Babies, Alex Bleeker & the Freaks, tba @ the Void
  • Double Duchess, Magic Mouth, Glitterbang, DJ Jeff Graves @ Soda Bar
  • The Tin Can Country Club Showcase @ Tin Can Ale House
  • Dave Scott & Monsoon Jazz @ Croce's
  • Backwater Blues Band @ Humphreys Backstage Live
  • Electric Waste Band @ Winstons
  • WG & the G-Men @ Patrick's Gaslamp Pub
  • Monday Night Jams @ 710 Beach Club
  • Doug Allen @ the Kraken
