I can't say for certain whether the Epicentre was Manchester Orchestra's first show in San Diego, but it was definitely my first time seeing them, and while people might say the sound in that venue wasn't ideal, the drama of their music from the soaring vocals to the whisper quiet moments was pure magic. And while their sound has changed and evolved, it has never lost that tension and drama, making them still one of today's best indie artists. See them tonight at the Observatory. Meanwhile, in South Bay, punk icons Green Day take the stage at Mattress Firm, in Shelter Island the magnificent storytellers of Indigo Girls play Humphreys, and Oakland electro-pop duo Lovemakers play the Casbah.
