    Pinegrove headline the Irenic Friday.

I know that pretty much every person in my social circle is super excited about the return of Depeche Mode at Mattress Firm Amphitheatre. And I totally get it...I grew up where pretty much three bands defined the subculture of the time: the Cure, the Smiths, and Depeche Mode. But to be completely honest, I'm a new-music kind of woman. I love new bands, new sounds and new perspectives. That's why I'm particularly excited about seeing Pinegrove at the Irenic. The band has such a unique folky sound, the timing and phrasing of the songs is a little offbeat, and it totally speaks to me. If you haven't heard them and don't have plans, this show should be at the top of your list. Around town, Father John Misty plays his second night at the Observatory, singer-songwriter Griffin House plays an early show at Soda Bar, and the Casbah hosts "Liz-Fest," in honor of Chica Diabla's Elizabeth B., who passed away last year from cancer.
