Before I start today, can I just express the deep grief I feel with respect to Las Vegas. Music is supposed to be the great unifier. It is supposed to bring people together to communally share all the emotions that music can bring out of us and concert venues are supposed to be safe spaces. I hope we all feel like we can carry on in these spaces because I can't imagine this life without music.
Having said all of that, the heartfelt music of Gillian Welch could very well be what you need tonight when she plays at Balboa Theatre. Gavin DeGraw is already sold out at the Belly Up, but Ms. Lauryn Hill knows how to get funky and be serious for serious times, too, and she'll be at SDSU's Open Air Theatre tonight. Our very dear friend Low Volts moved to Nashville, so it's pretty rare to be able to catch his one-man band as he plays Casbah tonight, and the Blow bring their electro-pop to Soda Bar.
