The Escovedo name represents a music legacy that has spread its wings far and wide. Locally, we have the gift of Mario Escovedo contributing to our scene in numerous ways, but on Wednesday night, we will make room for the elder Alejandro Escovedo, who will be performing at the Casbah with his backing band, the Sensitive Boys. He comes from a punk background, but that is long behind him, with 14 records with sounds that more closely reflect his chosen home of Austin, Texas. Alejandro Escovedo performed at the 2012 San Diego Music Thing and has performed at Anthology and other local venues, but this show will be his first at the Casbah since 2005, which should make it extra special. Doors open a half-hour earlier than usual, so expect an early start, and you can still be home before the nightly news.
