For the past couple of years, whenever Big Freedia has come to town, I've explained that the transgendered musician from New Orleans is known as the Queen of Bounce. It felt like people who witnessed Freedia totally got it, but writing about it just couldn't explain it. Fortunately or unfortunately, most Americans are now familiar with "twerking" and many credit "bounce" as the original name for the booty shaking that has taken over YouTube. It can be incredibly entertaining and sometimes shocking, like, "How does she even do that?" shocking, but after Big Freedia toured with the Postal Service earlier this summer, maybe there are just a few more people who get it. You can experience Bounce for yourself on Wednesday at the Casbah. If it's too much for your puritanical sensibilities, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin is still a great option over at Soda Bar.
