Sounds Like San Diego: May 17

Poptone head up Wednesday's top live-music offerings

I have to admit, I'm not super in love with the band name Poptone. To me it evokes a young girl band trying to crossover from Disney to indie pop. Or if you Google, a collection of brightly colored plastic watches. But the reality is that Poptone is the project of goth rock and new wave legends Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins, performing classics from their bands Bauhaus, Love and Rockets, Tones on Tail, and probably their solo stuff over the years, too. I do have to say that I don't know their relationship with David J these days, but seeing as he's more or less a San Diego local, it will be interesting if he makes an appearance in the crowd. Around town, the Casbah hosts Tribal Theory and Roots of Creation, British pop-punk act As It Is plays SOMA, and country legend Marty Stuart plays Belly Up
