Sounds Like San Diego: March 15

Rachael Yamagata's show at the Belly Up ushers in a packed Thursday night for live music in San Diego

A funny thing happened the last time Rachael Yamagata played in San Diego. There was a guy shooting photos of her and I was the only other photographer there. I was trying to shoot from the side, to get the most flattering pictures, but he was directly in front of her, shooting up at her. After three songs (the limit for photographers), he started to leave and she called him back to the stage. "Don't you know you can't shoot a lady from down below?" and then she proceeded to 'sexy pose' on the stage for him to get better shots. It's not uncommon for her to be so funny on stage, and it certainly helps lighten the mood for her deeply cathartic and often sad songs. She's definitely worth catching tonight at the Belly Up. Meanwhile, local pop-punk act Mainsail play at the Casbah, Puebla play at Bar Pink, and A$AP Ferg, who always seems to be releasing new music, returns to House of Blues.
