Sounds Like San Diego: June 30

Consider this a warning: With Independence Day falling on a Wednesday next week, the musical offerings are going to be limited in the upcoming week. Use this as your rationale for getting out and enjoying all of the choices availabe on Saturday. For my friends in North County who complain that I'm restrained to a small radius from where I live in Normal Heights, on this day you can feel good about heading to Roadside Park off the 101 to catch bands like the Donkeys, the Mattson 2 and more. If you're in the more central part of downtown, perhaps it is worth it to venture to Sherman Heights for the Latino Music Festival, which features traditional music from Mexico but also includes local rockers like Black Hondo, led by Lucina, singing in both Spanish and English. By nightfall, there are great options all over, too, so soak in these listings, especially the ones in nontraditional venues like 3rdSpace and Victory Theatre, or stick with what you know, like the double-CD release show at the Casbah with the Nervous Wreckords and Maren Paruselm among others.
