Mumford & Sons certainly didn't create Americana music, and they're certainly not the first indie rock band to use a banjo, but when I was attended their very first U.S. show at the Troubadour just a few short years ago, it was clear they were going to "make it." Nobody could've predicted that they would be the superstars they are today by completely upending what we think of as Top 40 music. They also opened the doors for similar bands like the Lumineers and Of Monsters & Men to be juxtaposed on the radio between Rhianna or Justin Bieber. You can be certain the sold out crowd at Sleep Train Amphitheatre will be singing-along at the top of their lungs. I guess that show at the tiny Troubadour was more historic than I realized.
