Sounds Like San Diego: June 22

Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One bring the funk and disco of Tuxedo

I don't know about you, but I'm feeling summer in a big way. San Diego is the perfect place to be this time of year, and the touring musicians must agree, because the shows feel endless. Tonight at the Observatory, get down to the funk and disco stylings of Tuxedo, a project that combines the talents of Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One. Their last show at the venue was outstanding, and tonight promises more of the same. Up at the Belly Up, Nick Waterhouse's music has been described as a "cool and elegant post-post-modern cocktail of 1950s R&B and club jazz, mixed with 1960s soul and boogaloo and shaken with a minimal contemporary sensibility," and that sounds like plenty of reason to check him out. The Casbah goes old school with punk legends Chron Gen, Bar Pink hosts a rare mid-week show with Ecce Loro and Mystic Braves will certainly pack the house at Blonde.
