Sounds Like San Diego: June 17

Get ready to be captivated by Chris Thile's virtuosity

It's funny how sometimes you remember the exact moment you discover new music. Nickel Creek wasn't new at the time, but they were new to me, when one late night at home I caught "Austin City Limits." I remember Chris Thile was soloing on his mandolin, and I was just enthralled. This was several years ago, but I came to find out they were from San Diego and my mind was kinda blown. How had I never heard or seen this band before that particular night? Over the years, I've been intrigued by their career, as they have gone on to separate projects, and tonight, Thile comes back home to play at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido. Fans of Nickel Creek and Punch Brothers will certainly be delighted, and I suspect that even if you've heard him play over the years, watching him live will have you captivated, perhaps in disbelief at his virtuosity, the way I was so many years ago. Around town, Nigerian Afro-fusion singer/songwriter Burna Boy plays the Casbah, Post Animal are at Soda Bar and the secretive Title TK hosts a show with Nightspace.
