Sounds Like San Diego: June 12

Kesha heads up a big night for live music in San Diego Tuesday

I'm not particularly keen on pop music in general, but Kesha's plight over the last several years has been nothing less than horrific. Imagine being locked in a contract with your own alleged rapist? And then the courts rule that a contract is a contract and you must record with the producer. I can't even imagine. So we could say Kesha was an early #MeToo victim, and maybe if she came out post-Weinstein, she might've garnered more support and public outrage. Tonight, the artist performs with Macklemore at Mattress Firm Amphitheatre, and I would suspect that among the sugary sweet pop, you'll get some intense, politically charged and real conversations. Meanwhile, Shy Boys and Heavy Hawaii play Whistle Stop, Canadian indie-folk band Reuben and the Dark play Soda Bar, and roots guitarist JD McPherson plays Belly Up. If you're curious why the Casbah is closed, it's because co-owner Ben Johnson is shooting the final scenes of his forthcoming feature-length film "Fanboy." We can't wait!
