Sounds Like San Diego: Jan. 7

Kalashnikov My Wife and Dagart Allison make friends at Sycamore Den

I've been writing for SoundDiego since it launched in 2010 and have written pretty much 363 days a year since. Over time, I've certainly been accused of favoring certain venues or only talking about my friends' bands, but the truth is, some venues -- like the Casbah -- are open more days than most other venues, so sometimes it might seem like they're the only game in town, and if it's true I only write about my friends, you'd be surprised how many friends one makes when you run around in the local music scene for the majority of your adult life. Tonight, some of my dearest friends in the music scene are playing at Sycamore Den and while Sundays are generally intense work days for me, I might have to make an exception and check them out. I mean, there aren't a lot of bands playing rock music with a ukulele on stage like Kalashnikov My Wife does, and it's not often that Dagart Allison plays live anywhere (he's usually out supporting other bands). Anyway, tonight feels like a really good night to check out Sycamore Den. Meanwhile, brooding LA singer/songwriter Wens plays Soda Bar, locals AJ Froman play Casbah and classic San Diego act the Paladins play the Belly Up.
