Sounds Like San Diego: January 3

A.J. Croce heads into the Belly Up Wednesday for a hometown show

It's kind of like those nature documentaries that show time-lapse photography of grass growing and flowers beginning to bloom. That's how the San Diego music scene is as we accept the new year, move past the holidays, and start looking forward to spring (complete with this year's Coachella lineup being announced). So let's see some live music, shall we? Tonight at the Belly Up, native son A.J. Croce returns to town for an intimate seated show, while local psych-rock outfit Monarch bring out the stoner-rock contingent of San Diego at the Casbah. Shades McCool, who last year quite comedically released a song joining together many of San Diego's most known commercial jingles, take the headline spot at Soda Bar after Gone Baby Gone had to cancel, and Gilbert Castellanos hosts his weekly jazz jam at Panama 66. We'll start getting into a groove here soon enough, but for now, your Wednesday has some pretty solid midweek options to get you out of the house.
