Contrary to popular belief, I'm not actually out at a show every night of the week. And so it was a few weeks ago, safely away from wildfires or weather crises, I was watching the news -- simply horrified by the tragic loss of horses at the San Luis Rey Training Camp. The news showed the clip of cell phone footage on repeat with the horses running in the smoke and news of injured and dead horses and trainers hitting the airwaves. I remembered it being 2 a.m. and the announcement that volunteers were needed at Del Mar Race Track. Hours later, there were over 1,000. Still, the camp -- surviving horses and trainers alike -- have a long road to recovery and tonight the Belly Up hosts an amazing benefit featuring music legend Burt Bacharach, Elvis Costello, and friends. At the Casbah, catch a supergroup of legends with the Flesh Eaters, Alien Ant Farm play a "secret" show at U-31, and Long Beach's Travesura (featuring pro skater and musician Leo Romero) play Soda Bar.
