Sounds Like San Diego: January 16

Friday night has some cool stuff around town. Your regular venues have you covered, and a couple out-of-the-ordinary spaces host shows, too. At Stronghold, an event space and gallery in Barrio Logan (formerly the Spot), Future Crooks play an all-ages show with Big Bad Buffalo and KIDS. This one has 91X Loudspeaker behind it, so you know it will be good. Later in the night, find your way to the Casbah for San Diego Freak Out, with Wild Wild Wets headlining a night with seven bands. The Observatory North Park -- which just this week changed hands from the previous owners, the North Park Theatre -- hosts its first show, with hip-hopper Curren$y; and Tim Flannery & the Lunatic Fringe play at Rock in the Park, held inside the Reuben H Fleet Science Center. There is no shortage of music to kick off a great holiday weekend.
