I didn't get an opportunity to really shine a light on Ozomatli because there were so many outstanding shows last night, but if you missed them, you have another chance to catch 'em. The band has always been interesting to me -- the members come from diverse backgrounds and with that, you get a lot of Latin, hip hop, jazz, rock, and reggae elements throughout their discography, but in a way that every song and every album is unique. They are a party band and you can't help but dance to their music, but they also convey heavy social and political messages in many of their songs. Their career has spanned two decades and they are stronger now than ever. See them tonight at the Belly Up. Around town, the Swami's new band has sold out the Casbah (big surprise there), the Steepwater Band get rootsy at Soda Bar, and the Liquorsmiths perform at Sycamore Den.
