Sounds Like San Diego: December 14

It's been pretty chilly around town lately, but few things can warm you more than a live show packed with warm bodies listening to great music. Get warmed as the Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash perform at the Griffin. This show is kind of a big deal because the opening band, the MacAnanys, was one of the best of San Diego in the '90s and rarely performs these days. You can also check out Teenage Burritos and Big Eyes playing a free show at the Whistle Stop or a new showcase called Freak Out, featuring Wild Wild Wets, at the Casbah. The big winner on Friday, however, is Ivan & Alyosha at Soda Bar. The band hails from the Northwest, and their sets are packed with catchy songs and beautifully layered harmonies. They always put on a great show, and I suspect this one will be no exception.
