Sounds Like San Diego: Dec. 10

Wednesday sees Tears for Fears making a play for a sold-out Belly Up and more

It had to be about the summer of 1985. I was 9 years old at my first-ever tennis camp -- there were kids of all ages, all the way through high school. I was the youngest, and I was in awe. The teenagers seemed so cool, and I distinctly remember telling my mom after my first class that we had to buy the Tears for Fears cassette because that's what everyone was talking about and listening to. So here it is, nearly 30 years later, and this amazing band is touring and playing the very small (relatively speaking) Belly Up to a very sold-out crowd. And oh, how that 9-year-old girl in me just wants to hear "Shout" or "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" in person. Around town, Merle Haggard performs at California Center for the Arts, Escondido, with the awesome Jamestown Revival opening, while Celtic Woman takes over the Civic Theatre, and Til-Two hosts a benefit for the original dirty rapper Blowfly along with Too $hort. Eclectic options, for sure.
