Sounds Like San Diego: Aug. 27

The other day I was reminiscing about 1994: Jon Stewart had just retired from "The Daily Show," but back then, he was hosting a show on MTV. My friends and I all ditched school because they were filming MTV Spring Break in Mission Bay, and we had to see Jon Stewart. He filmed two shows: One with The Lemonheads as the musical guest, and  the other with Rocket From the Crypt. We held our front-row-in-the-sand seats until the tapings ended, then raced over to a tent, where South Bay's own Sprung Monkey were playing another taping. That the band has survived more than two decades is pretty amazing, and it's respectable that they never forget their local roots and where they came from. On Friday, Sprung Monkey perform at the Casbah, and it is probably going to be slightly insane. Around town, the Flatliners play at Soda Bar, Slightly Stoopid's C-Money gets down at Winston's, and Weird Al is at the track.
