Young the Giant headline SDSU's Open Air Theatre on Thursday.

It wasn't so long ago that Young the Giant was playing an Anti-Monday League residency at the Casbah, but radio is magic when it works in breaking bands, and this band surely has proven their worth over the past several years in the constant growth of the venues they play. Tonight, they play their biggest San Diego headline show to date and with the support of Cold War Kids and Joywave, it might feel like a mini-festival except you get the benefit of full sets. Meanwhile, Danish alt-rockers Mew take the stage at the Observatory (read the SoundDiego interview with the band here), local rockers the Slashes tear things up at the Casbah, and Red Fox Tails set the chill vibe at Bar Pink. For those of you who love your big shows, Rancid, Dropkick Murphys and friends play Petco Park's Park in the Park before heading to a major festival in San Bernardino this weekend.
