Sounds Like San Diego: April 8

Get to know Kimbra at the Observatory or catch Figs Vision at Casbah on Wednesday

I can't believe it is only Wednesday, but I for one am ready to get out and have some fun after the week I've had so far. Join me as I catch Kimbra at the Observatory North Park [and read our interview with her here]. The Kiwi made a huge splash on Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" but already had a successful career before -- and still, after that song has faded from our collective earworm. Mikky Ekko, who recently performed at the Irenic, opens the show. Meanwhile, at the Casbah, L.A.'s Figs Vision perform. The band is said to have a pop sound similar to Fun., though I find their sound a bit more electro and edgy, pairing them well with Wednesday night's openers, Nicky Venus and Christine Sako. Around town, Belly Up with Andrew McMahon is sold out, while White Violet get down at Soda Bar, and Taurus Authority hone their sound at a somewhat regular Wednesday night at Bar Pink.
