Signing Up For Cults

Check out the best shows going on around town this weekend, courtesy of Robin Roth

There are so many great live music choices this weekend. Friday night, celebrate the seventh anniversary of San Diego: Dialed In at the Casbah featuring Rubblebucket, the Heavy Guilt, Grandpa Drew and the Gutstring Girls. At Soda Bar, its Ilya’s first live performance in over 2 years. The Old Man Wizard record release show is at the Tin Can with Boy King and Gloomsday. Sublime tribute band 40 Oz. To Freedom headlines the Belly Up. Paul Oakenfold makes his way to Voyeur and you can still grab tickets here. More dancing with Mat Zo and Nom De Strip at Bassmnt and Seria Star at The Kava Lounge.

Early on Saturday night, make your plans to attend Something in the Heart is Never Lost: An Art Show in Memoriam of Cara Mia Ciasulli. Cara Mia passed away earlier this year at the age of 35 and this night of art and live music at Space 4 Art downtown is dedicated to her. Plenty of live music options all over San Diego. Blitzen Trapper hit Porter’s Pub; Strange Talk, The Griswolds and Dr. Seahorse play at the Casbah; local band Reason To Rebel is having their CD release show at Soda Bar with support from Amerikan Bear and Red Wizard, and Twenty One Pilots and Robert Delong play at House of Blues. Club Sabbat takes over both rooms at Numb3rs. I’ll be DJing in the front room with Dark Angel and Severin provides the dark old school in the back room. Grab more info here. Plus, you can get your dance on with Booty Bassment at the Whistle Stop, Dragon Lounge at the Kava Lounge, and Fashion Whore at U-31.

And finally on Sunday, Cults headline an all-ages show at the Irenic. And at the Casbah, its Jello Biafra & the Guantanamo School of Medicine, Death Hymn #9, Tit Wrench and Erleen Nada.

Have a great weekend and I’ll see you on the dance floor!
