San Diego Music Awards Announce Artist Showcases

The San Diego Music Awards have announced five official artist showcases

As the 2019 San Diego Music Awards inch closer -- the annual ceremony takes place at House of Blues on March 11 -- more than a few nominees will have their chance to strut their stuff in five official artist showcases held across San Diego County preceding (and immediately following) the awards show.

It all begins on Wednesday, March 6: Morena Boulevard's Tio Leo's Lounge hosts four artists competing for Best Blues Album: Sue Palmer Trio (also up for Best Jazz), Wayne Riker, S. Mathias & the Honeycombs and Blue Largo -- we can only hope the proceedings remain cordial.

The following night, North Park's finest dive Bar Pink features a six-band blowout with the Parker Meridien (Best Hip-Hop/Rap and Best Hip-Hop/Rap Album), Well Well Well (Best Pop), Imagery Machine (Best Indie/Alternative), Marujah (Best World Music Album), the Spice Pistols and Finnegan Blue (both up for Best Local Recording).

On Friday, March 8, Del Cerro's Navajo Live gets in on the action with five bands including Enter the Blue Sky and the Nathan Raney Band (both up for Best Country/Americana), the Becca Jay Band (Best Pop Album), the Amalgamated (Best World Music Album) and Evan Diamond & the Library (Best Singer/Songwriter).

Next up on March 9: Pour House Oceanside -- the North County hotspot where we just held our jam-packed January SoundDiego LIVE party -- invites Aviator Stash (Best Indie/Alternative), the Oxen (Best Rock) and Nina Francis (Best Singer/Songwriter) to its stage.

After the SDMAs wrap on March 11 and all the acceptance speeches have either been spoken (or discreetly discarded in the trash), there's no better place to unwind and revel with fellow area music lovers than the one-and-only Casbah, where Babydoll Warriors (Best New Artist), Daytrip (Best Pop Album) and Dead Feather Moon (Best Indie/Alternative) are scheduled to perform.

Thanks to these shows, everyone in town -- from this year's nominees and next year's hopefuls to friends, family and fans -- will have plenty of opportunities to head out and discover some of the best and brightest acts the San Diego music scene has to offer.
