The fourth annual Rock N' Roll Camp for Girls San Diego Camper Showcase returns to House of Blues on July 27.

The future is female -- and the future is now. On Saturday, July 27, downtown's House of Blues will host the fourth annual Rock N' Roll Camp For Girls San Diego Camper Showcase.

Rock N' Roll Camp for Girls is a nonprofit organization that empowers young girls through music. During weeklong camps (taking place on July 22-26 this year), female-identifying attendees between the ages of 8-17 choose an instrument to play/learn (vocals, guitar, bass, keyboard or drums), form a band by drawing names out of a hat (which encourages new friendships and collaborations) and write a song before performing in front of an audience at the camp's House of Blues grand finale showcase.

The camp is not all about music either: This year, it will also include lessons on self-defense, 'zine making, silk-screening, media literacy, and making a difference in the community (among others). How they manage to fit all of that into one short week is nothing short of an impressive feat.

"It’s incredible to see the campers' transformations from when they first enter camp to their final performance day," founder and president Melissa Grove said in a press release. "With the skills they’ve learned throughout the week, the girls are empowered and ready to rock their performances! On showcase day, I tell the girls this is their three-minute tour, so go out and own it!"

As in years prior, the Girls Rock Camp will take place at A.R.T.S. (A Reason to Survive) in National City from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and costs $375 per camper. Register to attend here.

No musical experience is necessary, and all instruments are provided. Financial aid is available for families that are low-income, have many dependents or are facing other financial hardships. According to the camp's website: "We try very hard to make camp accessible to all girls and not to turn a camper away due to financial need."

For more information on the camp, visit its website.

The fourth annual Rock N' Roll Camp for Girls San Diego Campers Showcase will take place on Saturday, July 27, at House of Blues San Diego (1055 Fifth Ave.) at 12 p.m. The event is all ages and open to the public. Get tickets here.
