Living Social

Happy New Year! Now that we are officially into 2013, let’s see how many resolutions we can keep over the next few weeks. Maybe getting out and seeing more live music is on that list. The one thing that I don’t take for granted is the fantastic scene we have in San Diego. So many great local bands on any given night of the week.

On Friday, check out Uncle Joe’s Big Ol’Driver, Fluf, Black Hondo and Ghetto Blaster at the Casbah. By the way, the Casbah is celebrating its 24th Anniversary this month so be on the lookout for plenty of great events.

Social Distortion has a bunch of shows happening in San Diego this month, including two sold-out concerts Friday and Saturday at House of Blues. There are still tickets for the one happening on the 15th and you can grab them via this link. Also, Pato Banton plays at the Belly Up in Solana Beach and more details are here.

Saturday is the first Club Ascension of 2013 at the Kava Lounge. DJs Atom and Liquid Grey join me in spinning the best in dark underground dance music. Grab more details here. If your vibe is more on the dubstep side, then Premonition at the Ruby Room is what you should check out. Organized Grime & Lo-Cal Bass present UK headliners Badlaat and Coffi, plus hometown heroes Sublmnl Sound System, Eshone and Larry Wolf. More info here. Plus, you can check out Doorly and Mossberg Pump at Voyeur and there’s no cover with your RSVP. As far as live bands go, there’s a New Wave ‘80s party with the Cured, Really Idol and the s’Cars at Brick By Brick. At the Belly Up, it’s the Third Annual Beat Farmers Hootenany featuring the Farmers, Dave Alvin, Steve Berlin, Mojo Nixon, Joey Harris & the Mentals and Nancarrow. And a band that has been on my radar for a few months, Royal Teeth, plays at Soda Bar. Plenty of different options for you this weekend.

Here’s to the short work week and I’ll see you on the dance floor!
