In between all of the holiday hustle and bustle, make time for some great shows this weekend in San Diego.
A few fun events are on my radar for Friday. Gary Shuffler’s 50th Birthday Bash at the Casbah has tribute bands Queenly (featuring Gary) and Highway to Hell Cajon playing live with Yacht Party in the Atari Lounge. Andrew W.K. will take over the Epicentre in Mira Mesa, and the Brian Setzer Orchestra plays a sold-out show at the Belly Up. Bang Bang features Viceroy and Colour Vision while F---iing In the Bushes takes over the Whistle Stop with DJs Daniel Sant and Rob Moran spinning the best in Brit pop. Plus, El Puro Party at El Camino has Los Office Twins and Adam Salter in the mix, and the Naughty Elf Invasion takes over the Kava Lounge with sonic selecta’s Bassmechanic, Kombat and Brutus.
Start your Saturday night off with the Frights' in-store cassette-release party at M-Theory. After that, there's plenty to choose from, including 91x presents San Diego’s Vokab Kompany, Minnesota and Diego’s Umbrella at House of Blues. The local band the Schitzophonics are celebrating the holiday season at the Casbah with support from the Touchies, the nFormals and Spero. If you’re feeling the punk-rock vibe, check out US Bombs, Rat City Riot, Sculpins and Oddball at Soda Bar. Plus, the Greyboy Allstars and the Heavy Guilt are at the Belly Up. On the dance tip, Kittens and Mossberg Pump will heat things up at Bang Bang, Gabe Vega and Saul rock the Whistle Stop with '80s vs. '90s, Neon Beat features the best and worst of the '80s at Bar Pink and the final Elev8 of the year is at Spin Nightclub.
My pick for Sunday to get you in the holiday spirit is the El Vez and Rosie Flores Mexmas Show, plus Two Wolves and Badabing at the Casbah.
Have a great weekend and I’ll see you on the dance floor!
