Mac n Biz Flow for a Cure

March 22 marks the third annual Flow for a Cure event to raise money for leukemia

The local hip-hop duo Mack n Biz are advocates for supporting a cause. In light of that, the group (Andy McNamara and Al Baltazar) started an annual charity event three years ago called Flow for a Cure, which raises money for an organization, Tyler’s Team, dedicated to find a cure for leukemia.

Tyler's Team was started in 2000 by a group of San Marino high school students to honor a classmate, Tyler George, who died from from leukemia earlier that year. Music fans 18 and over can attend Flow for a Cure, which has has raised more than $2,000 over the past two years. This year, the duo hopes to raise even more.

“Music is our opportunity to give back and make a difference," Mack said. "Each year we’ve held the event, it has successfully gotten bigger and attracted more people."

This year, the duo will perform with Billy B from the local reggae band Through the Roots. The event will be held at Typhoon Saloon in Pacific Beach on March 22. Wristbands saying Flowing for Tyler’s Team will be sold for $1 at the event, and all proceeds will go to charity. Doors open at 9 p.m., and all cover charges paid before 11 p.m. will also be donated to charity.
