Lupe Fiasco, Shiny Toy Guns Headline USD Spring Concert

Lupe Fiasco and Shiny Toy Guns are set to perform at the inaugural Ole Music festival on Sunday on the campus of the University of San Diego.

All profits from the benefit concert will go to Invisible Children, a San Diego-based nonprofit organization that is raising awareness about abducted children who are trained and forced to fight as soldiers in a rebel group in Uganda.

The 28-year-old MC Fiasco is taking a detour from his Steppin’ Laser Tour to support Invisible Children's efforts. A West African descendant, Fiasco isn’t a stranger to Third World countries' struggles with inhumane treatment, as evidenced by his 2005 hit, “Conflict Diamonds.”

The Grammy-nominated Shiny Toy Guns, currently on tour, will also perform and possibly play tracks from their new album.  Also on tap Sunday: Buddy Akai, an indie act with San Diego roots.

The show begins at 7 p.m. on May 9 at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. General admission is $27.50. Tickets can be purchased at tickets.com.
