Tenacious D Set for San Diego Show

Tenacious D to join Will Ferrell for a comedy extravaganza

Comedy and music don’t often mix well, but when it does it can be a thing to behold. Such is the case with The Comedy Explosion: An Evening of Comedy and Big Game Cats, an all-star conglomeration of performers on Sept. 7 at the San Diego Civic Theater.

Of the number of comedians who have joined the tour, including superstar host Will Ferrell, comedy-rock duo Tenacious D stand out among the other members of the star-studded cast.  Funnymen Jack Black and Kyle Gass have been banging out witty gems on their acoustic guitars for nearly 20 years under the Tenacious D moniker. The pair originally met in a theater troupe in 1989.

It would be hard to argue that the pair were unsuccessful fusing their brand humor and musicianship. Along with loads of high-profile collaborations with such artists as Dave Grohl and the late Dio, and their full-length film The Pick of Destiny, Tenacious D have kept busy.

Host Will Ferrell is likely jazzed to return to San Diego, the setting for the upcoming sequel to the cult hit Anchorman. The night won't be complete without him putting on his best Ron Burgundy and urging us “keep it classy,” even if us San Diegans have already adapted to that mantra wholeheartedly.

And that’s not even the thick of it: The show features a handful of other household names to round out the lineup, including Ed Helms of The Office and The Hangover; Nick Kroll of The League and The Kroll Show; as well as up-and coming comics Hannibal Buress and Chelsea Peretti.
